Join religious leaders call for peace in Middle East
Dear friends,
Let the U.S. government know that a just, lasting peace in the Middle Eastis important to you as a Christian. Consensus is growing that time is not on theside of peace in the Middle East. Diplomatic efforts seem to have reached animpasse. That is why United Methodists are among 44 faith leaders that recentlysent a letter to President Obama calling on him to work harder for a negotiatedresolution to the Israeli-Palestinian situation that will provide peace, justice and security for all.
United Methodists who signed the letter are Bishop Sharon Zimmerman Rader,Council of Bishops ecumenical officer; Harriett Jane Olson, chief executive ofthe Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries; Raúl Alegría,president of MARCHA, the United Methodist Hispanic Caucus; and the Rev. JohnMcCullough, CEO of Church World Service.A movement is growing among people like you calling for a more responsible, active U.S. role in restarting peace talks.
You can add your voice to this movement for peace today.
The letter to the president was signed by Christian leaders from across theUnited States. These faith leaders wrote to the president: "Visibleadditional steps by you and your administration are needed now more than everto keep the parties focused on making concrete progress. We are deeplyconcerned that without further U.S. initiatives, together with theinternational community, the current impasse will continue and further violencecould make an acceptable agreement harder to achieve."
